This page is the plain-English version of what Quotd is, how we are paid, and the limits of what we can do. We want every prospective client to read this before booking.

What Quotd is

Quotd LLC is an Iowa limited liability company providing independent, buyer-side car-buying advisory and negotiation services. Our service consists of:

  • Reviewing dealer quotes and contracts you've received.
  • Researching fair-market pricing, incentives, and fees for the vehicle and region.
  • Negotiating, on your behalf and at your direction, with one or more dealers — on price, trade-in valuation, and finance-and-insurance ("F&I") products.
  • Providing you with a written out-the-door breakdown and recommendations on which F&I add-ons to decline.

What Quotd is not

We are not any of the following, and you should not treat us as such:

  • Not a licensed auto dealer or broker. We do not buy, sell, lease, or take title to vehicles. We do not hold a motor vehicle dealer license, broker license, or similar license in Iowa or any other state. We do not engage in activity that requires a dealer or broker license.
  • Not a lender, loan broker, or mortgage broker. We do not originate, arrange, or recommend loans. Any financing decisions are between you and your chosen lender.
  • Not an insurance agent or producer. Comments about extended warranties, GAP coverage, or other F&I products are general consumer information, not insurance advice or solicitation. Whether to purchase any insurance or warranty product is your decision.
  • Not a law firm or attorney. Nothing on the site or in our service is legal advice. Consult a licensed attorney for legal questions about your purchase or contract.
  • Not a tax advisor, accountant, or financial planner. Nothing on the site is tax or financial advice. Consult a qualified professional.
  • Not a signing or settlement agent. We do not sign documents on your behalf. You sign every document yourself.
  • Not a lead-generation, referral, or affinity-program operator. We are not paid by any dealer, lender, or other party for referring or directing business to them.

How we are paid

We are paid only by the client, with a flat fee disclosed and agreed to before any work begins. We do not accept, and have not accepted, any of the following from any dealer, lender, manufacturer, warranty provider, insurer, lead aggregator, or any other party in any client's transaction:

  • Commissions or spiffs.
  • Referral fees, finder's fees, or lead-generation fees.
  • Volume bonuses or rebates of any kind.
  • Gifts, hospitality, or compensation of more than nominal value.

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page and notify active clients. We will never accept dealer-side compensation on a client deal without that client's express written consent.

No guaranteed savings or specific outcome

Vehicle pricing varies by region, by inventory, by manufacturer incentives, and by individual dealer behavior. We do not promise, guarantee, or represent any specific savings amount, negotiated price, trade-in value, interest rate, or other dollar outcome. Any numbers shown on the site — including in the interactive estimator and in any example breakdowns — are illustrative only and do not represent a price commitment or expected result.

We will give you our honest assessment of any deal. If a quote you received is already fair, we will tell you so and not manufacture an objection to justify our fee.

You make the purchase

At every stage, the purchase decision is yours. We advise, you decide. You sign every document. You hand over payment to the dealer or to your lender. If we make a negotiating move in writing to a dealer, we will do so only with your prior approval. If you don't like a recommendation, you don't have to take it.

State licensing

We provide buyer-side advisory and negotiation services. Auto dealer and broker licensing requirements vary by state, and the line between "advising a buyer" and "brokering a vehicle" can be regulated differently in different jurisdictions. We have structured our service to fall within advisory and consulting activity, not brokerage. If we expand into states with stricter requirements, or if our service model changes, we will update this page.

If you live in a state where you have specific questions about whether you can use a buyer-side advisory service, contact your state's department of transportation or motor vehicles. We are happy to discuss your specific situation before you book.

Independence — annual attestation

Quotd LLC commits to an annual review of any third-party relationships and a public statement on this page reaffirming that we have not accepted compensation from any dealer, lender, or other party in client transactions during the prior year. The first attestation will be posted at the close of our first full calendar year of operation.
